Membership Qualification

Candidates must have junior standing based on units (freshmen or sophomores with advanced standing may also qualify) and must rank in the top eighth of the junior class or the top fifth of the senior class within the CSULB College of Engineering.

Note: Transfer students must have completed at least one semester at CSULB prior to initiation eligibility, per national guidelines.

Membership Benefits

Membership in Tau Beta Pi offers a wide range of lifelong benefits. Eligible members can apply for exclusive scholarships—60% of applicants in 2023 received a $2,000 award—as well as $10,000 graduate fellowships. Members also enjoy discounts on insurance, electronics, and test preparation services. 

Beyond financial benefits, Tau Beta Pi provides access to a strong professional network, national recognition, and leadership development. Chapter activities include signature events such as Evening with Industry, guest speaker panels, professional development workshops, social gatherings, and community service projects.

Yes! Tau Beta Pi includes all ABET-accredited engineering disciplines, including Computer Science at CSULB.

“CA-Q” refers to the California Theta chapter of Tau Beta Pi, which is located at Cal State Long Beach.

Yes! There is a one-time initiation fee of $95, which covers both national and chapter dues. Please contact a board member if you have a question or comment.

No, but there are minimum requirements. You’ll need to attend specific events listed in the requirement sheet to qualify for initiation.

We host professional development workshops, socials, volunteer opportunities, Bent statue cleanings, and our signature event: Evening with Industry.

Yes! Graduate students who meet the GPA cutoff (top 20% in their program) are eligible but may have a modified requirement sheet.
